Welcome to the Newtown Torpedoes 2024/2025 Season.

AGES: Swimmers must register and compete based on their age as of November 1, 2024 per Yankee League rules.

COACHES: Torpedoes coaches are Connor Negri, Lester Frost, David Lawrence, and Ahmed Malik. Please sign up for our E-Alerts (see page 4).

PARENT MEETING: Parent Meeting date is October 9th and will be held at Newtown High School.

NEW SWIMMER EVALUATIONS: New swimmer evaluations will be held October 14th from 6:00-7:30pm at Newtown High School Pool.
New swimmers to the Newtown Torpedoes (all ages) need to be evaluated by the coaching staff prior to the start of regular season practices to determine that the swimmer is ready for a swim team program. It must be emphasized that this is not a swim lesson program. We teach the four competitive strokes and work on technique all year, but for safety reasons and fairness to other swimmers a minimum swimming ability is required before starting with the team.

• 8-and-under swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards (one length of the pool) of freestyle- swimming, breathing to the side.

• 9-and-over swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards (2 pool lengths) of freestyle swimming, breathing to the side.

All swimmers must be registered with Parks and Recreation BEFORE the evaluations. The registration fee will be refunded if the coaches determine that a swimmer does not have sufficient swim ability to participate with the team. Parents will be notified on the night of evaluations if the coaching staff has determined that a swimmer is not ready to begin a swim team program.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE:
Practice begins on Tuesday, October 15.
Practices will be split into two groups by age, 10 & unders and 11 & overs.
Practices will be held Monday-Thursday for both age groups.

The tentative schedule is as follows:
• 10 & unders: 5:30-6:30pm
• 11 & overs: 6:30-7:45 or 8:00pm

Swimmers are strongly encouraged to attend a minimum of 2 practices per week. We require swimmers to remain in their assigned practice group. Locker rooms are available.

MEETS: Meets will be held on Saturdays, November through February. The meet schedule and format will be posted on the team website once it is set up. Yankee League championships meets will take place the last three weekends of February.

REFUNDS: Refunds will be given only prior to the start of the season, in the event your child cannot participate. Exception: if a swimmer does not pass the evaluation, a refund will be made.

NEWTOWN RESIDENTS ONLY: Torpedoes Recreational Swim Team is open to Newtown residents only due to limited space available.
