Welcome to the Newtown Torpedoes 2023-2024 Season.

AGES
Swimmers must register and compete based on their age as of November 1, 2023 per Yankee League rules.

PARENT MEETING
Parent Meeting date is TBA and will be held at the Newtown High School Café.

NEW SWIMMER EVALUATIONS
New swimmer evaluations will be held the first week of October as follows (swimmers must attend one session only):
• 10 & unders: 5:30-6:30pm
• 11 & overs: 6:30-7:30pm

All swimmers who are new to the winter Torpedoes will need to be evaluated and must be able to demonstrate freestyle without stopping and using rotary breathing. Ages 8 & under must swim 25 yards (one length of the pool), ages 9 & over must swim 50 yards (2 lengths of the pool).

PRACTICE SCHEDULE
Practice begins on Monday, October 9.
Practices will be split into two groups by age, 10 & unders and 11 & overs.
Practices will be held Monday-Thursday for both age groups.

The tentative schedule is as follows:
• 10 & unders: 5:30-6:30pm
• 11 & overs: 6:30-7:45 or 8:00pm

Swimmers are strongly encouraged to attend a minimum of 2 practices per week. We require swimmers to remain in their assigned practice group. Locker rooms are available.

MEETS
Meets will be held on Saturdays. There will be approximately six meets from November through January. The meet schedule and format will be posted on the team website once it is set up. Yankee League championships meets will take place the last three weekends of February.

REFUNDS
Refunds will be given only prior to the start of the season, in the event your child cannot participate.

NEWTOWN RESIDENTS ONLY
Torpedoes Recreational Swim Team is open to Newtown residents only due to limited space available.

The Newtown Torpedoes Swim Team will emphasize team spirit and FUN! Swimmers will learn the fundamentals of swim competition and proper stroke and turn techniques. Swimmer must be able to swim 25 yards and must have knowledge of the various swim strokes. Enrollment is limited. THIS IS NOT A SWIM LESSON.

The practice schedule will be set up once we know how many swimmers have registered. At this point, we are unsure whether there will be Stateline meets.
